Middleware market

The middleware market, i.e. the software elements which allow applications to be deployed across simple to complex architecture between clients and servers, is estimated* to grow from $890 millions in 1995 to $6 billions by year 2000. The middleware market comprises five segments: Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM); Distributed Transaction Processing Monitor Middleware (TPM); Object Request Broker Middleware (ORB); Data Access Middleware (DA) Remote Procedure Call Middleware (RPC);.

What analysts say about Middleware market :

Robertson Stephens & Co.
"...a second generation of middleware is needed to bridge the gap between existing and future applications, databases, operating systems and networking infrastructure." "We believe that the structural changes and their consequences (Internet, intranet, data warehousing...) are driving the demand for a new generation of middleware product ."

Gartner Group
"By 1999, the fastest growing forms of middleware will be the OTMs and the message brokers." "DBMSs and ORBs will not be the dominating middleware for new enterprise applications in the post-1999 world because of their inability to support distributed transactions." "By 2001, 75% of all new business systems will be built using modules of medium granularity. Both monolithic three tier and the fine-grained object oriented partitioning will be rare."

International Data Corp.
"If you are going to have robust, distributed systems, you must have middleware. It is extremely important and will grow to be a full citizen in distributed application architecture and will assume equal place with other full citizens, such as databases."

Meta Group
"The messaging market will continue to grow dynamically (100% per year) during the next three years. IT application successes É will drive increased adoption rates and product demand for messaging software infrastructures."
